Faces Of

Indistinguishable from the human hand

Studio Art and Commerce AI on Canvas Robot Rail
WHAT IS IT?

Faces Of is an artwork created by Studio of Art & Commerce in collaboration with Sir Peter Blake. The piece was commissioned by the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, as the focal point for their 60th Anniversay celebrations.

WHAT WE DID

Whatever Together was the technical design and production partner to Studio of Art & Commerce, creators of ‘Faces Of' is an innovative new artwork developed in collaboration with Sir Peter Blake. Built using a large-scale, high-precision motion platform, the piece uses AI technology to translate photographs of guests at an event into line-drawn portraits. These portraits are plotted on a 4.8m wide canvas using ink and a mechanised calligraphy brush. These systems work in concert to replicate the human touch and traditional mark-making techniques.
